Star Ride Stay overnight with the family
at the inn, with 6 days of horseback riding in the mountains. Follow ancient carriage
paths connecting villages, pass through the wildlife refuge. Climb a tower, see castle
ruins and lunch at farmhouses. Moderate. April through October.
Saturday to Saturday
Wild and lush vegetation, deserted woods and romantic courses
of rivers alternate each other in an idyllic way. With a wandering route
(220km/137miles) a wonderful tour has been created at the Mühlviertler Alm,
which enables you to experience the unique nature of this ancient land on
horseback without the daily hectic pace. With an experienced guide you will
explore Southern Bohemia where the people are friendly and there are very few
tourists.
1st day: Welcome! (note some changes may occur--this is a sample.)
Welcome drink at Wanderreiterhof Kern. (Hereafter called the Inn located in
Austria--UnterweiBenback) Meeting your hosts and your horses, who will be
your companions on this week-long trek, you will settle in to your hotel.
Dinner and overnight stay at the Rieterhof Inn.
2nd day: Tracks of Celtic Town
After learning how the hosts tack up and the theory behind their program
we will ride to the remote "Stoaberghof." There we can feel the infinity
of
the Upper Austrian nature with all its legends and myths. That is the place
where you can forget the daily routine. The return ride to the inn after a
snack enables the rider to adjust to his horse.
3rd day: Mysterious Tannermoor
We are riding on old path ways through wooded, hilly country to the nature
reserve Tannermoor. A moor like no other. A relict of the Ice Age with
unique flora and fauna. The fresh air makes us hungry and we are looking
forward to enjoying the traditional rural lunch at the horse-inn Gattinger.
Strengthened by a solid home cooked meal we ride through the Weinsberger wood
to Liebenau and Schöneben. At Siegi's Stelzmüllers ethnic chimney-room we
will have a restful evening. Overnight in Mitterback.
4th day: Following old paths to Liebenstein
With greatest reluctance we leave Siegi's cozy station the next
morning, soon being compensated by the view of nature. The paths, once
mule tracks in the Middle Ages, go along watch-stones and ethnic stonewalls
to the small village Liebenstein. The Kammerer Mountain offers us a
marvelous view (on sunny days as far as to the Austrian Alps) and a
breather for us and the horses. Today we take our lunch-break at farm
"Hackstock." Overnight in a small guesthouse.
5th day: Through the romantic Waldaisttal
We already became familiar with our horses so that it is a pleasure to go on
the 2nd stage of the tour early in the morning. On an idyllic meadow next to
the Waldaist we will have a picnic in the open field. In summer one
can take a refreshing swim in the river. Refreshed we continue to the
riding farm of "Onkel Peda" and we overnight there.
6th day: Taking up the knight's trail (turn back to Austria)
Still thirsty for adventure we ride through shady woods on to new
destinations after breakfast. In the morning we visit the ruin
Prandegg, where we can feel a gentle breeze of the former Middle Ages. Even
though the old towers are fascinating, there already is supper waiting for
us at the adventure-camp of Rudolf and Maria Pühringer. Through the Stampfen
Valley we ride to St. Leonard, an idyllic small place of pilgrimage.
Overnight in a cozy country guesthouse.
7th day: We have been riding through nature for 5 days, and
still there are new impressions for us. Energized by this marvelous
time of exploration and new discovery, we saddle up our horses for the last
leg of our journey. One more time we enjoy a last magnificent gallop with
the horses.
Reaching the Rieterhof tired but happy we overnight back at our initial
destination.
8th day: Tour terminates after breakfast.
Service:
8 days, 7 overnight-stays in double-room, with shower/toilet/telephone/half
board (take money for lunch as it is not included) 6 riding days (~ 220 km), horse with equipment, luggage transport.
Be sure to bring at least 250 or so schillings per day for one meal and for alcoholic
beverages or souvenirs. (Before you come get money changed as there will be
no time for a bank on your horseback journey) Bring your own soap. You may
want to bring some hot chocolate packets as well for breakfast.
