India"Travel with the eyes of a child and the soul of a mystic" PUSHKAR ITINERAY FOR NOV. 2000 DAY ONE - NOV 12 Arrive in to New Delhi. Reed. at the airport and then check into the Imperial. DAY TWO - NOV 13 Check out of the hotel after breakfast. Depending on flight time to Jodhpur we can do some sight seeing. The other alternative take the night train to Jodhpur giving you the day in Delhi. Dep. for Jodhpur by air. Arr. at Jodhpur and check in at the Umaid Bhawan Palace. No program for the rest of the day. Relax at the hotel. Special dinner at Balsamand Lake Palace. Overlooking the lake a sit down dinner with fireworks and local entertainment. Return to the Palace. DAY THREE - NOV 14 Breakfast on the Palace lawns and then Depart for the Meherangarh Fort. Detailed tour of the Fort with Dhananjaya Singh author of two books on Jodhpur. Traditional lunch at the Fort and then a quick visit to the city markets and shops. 5.00pm Depart for Fort Chanwa (I hrs drive) by coach. High tea and check in. Cocktails and dinner at the fort with a bonfire and live local folk music. DAY FOUR - NOV 15 Early breakfast at 8.00am.The day will be spent on horseback trying out mounts for the rest of the safari. We will ride out to the sand dunes and return after a picnic lunch. About 4 hrs of riding. Return to the fort in time for late tea. Dinner at Fort Chanwa. DAY FIVE - NOV 16 8.00am Breakfast and departure for Rohetgarh on horseback 4hrs riding time. Enroute we will stop at a Sishnoi Village for lunch before continuing to Rohet. This ride takes us through charming countryside, teeming with antelope and gazelle and occasionally you pass through a cluster of huts. Arrive at Rohet early evening in time for a quick walk by the lake to loosen the muscles. Dinner at hotel. DAY SIX - NOV 17 8.00am Breakfast and depart for Sardar Samand an Art Deco Palace 30kms away which was a hunting lodge in the old days. A different days ride to the previous one, this one takes us through bigger villages and through harder terrain sometimes covered with the imported Accacia of Australia. One gets to see the old irrigation systems. We will arrive in time for a late lunch by the poolside. The evening will be sent going round the lake bird watching-flamingoes; pelicans, storks duck and geese are some of the species easily spotted. Dinner at the hotel European cuisine if required. DAY SEVEN - NOV 18 Late departure from Sardar Samand for the famous Ranakpur Jain Temples. Carved out of marble no two pillars of the 1444pillars are similar. Lunch at Maharani Bagh 5kms from the temples. Arrive at Rawla Narlai in time for high tea. Evening program includes a magic show and dinner beside a beautifully restored step well. DAY EIGHT - NOV 19 7.45am Breakfast and immediate departure for Kumbalgarh Fort. This is definitely the highlight of the trip. The ride lasts about 5 hours, the first two are through the plains and then we hit the Aravalli range (the oldest rock formation in the world). We stop for lunch at the forest lodge nicely located over a lake sometimes full of sunbathing crocodiles. The Kumbalgarh forests are a sanctuary for leopards, bears, deer and bird life too as they are provide thick cover and entry is restricted to these parts. We should arrive at the fort by 4.00pm in time to see the insides. After refreshments we shall depart for Deogarh about an hours drive away by car. An early night but not before witnessing the unique Village Opera. DAY NINE - NOV 20 Late Breakfast. Riders will need the rest. A must is the safari organised by Deogarh in their old army trucks in the surrounding hills giving you fantastic view from on heigh. After an early lunch we shall depart for the Pushkar Fair arriving there at sun down. Early dinner at Royal Camp and an early night. DAY TEN - NOV 21 Early breakfast. A visit to the fair for a few hours to see the trading which is rather hectic by late morning. Back to camp for lunch. After lunch we shall take a round of the fair on horseback getting just close enough to give a view of the proceedings. Return to warm fire at the camp in time for tea and drinks. Dinner will be a barbecue and Royal Camp organises some excellent local musicians and dancers. DAY ELEVEN - NOV 22 Early Breakfast We ride to the surrounding dunes and hills and have a picnic lunch. Return to have a last look at the fair. A small tea will be arranged at a nice spot in the fair. The evening atmosphere is very different-the mood is relaxed as the days business has been successfully completed. People wander about to each other's camps meeting friends over endless cups of tea. Dinner at Royal Camp DAY TWELVE - NOV 23 8.30am Breakfast and depart for Jaipur (90 mins). Luggage can be sent directly to Samode Haveli while guests can proceed to the Amber Fort by elephant. Return to the Haveli for lunch. After lunch the options are to see the City Palace or go shopping as Jaipur is easily the best place to buy handicrafts etc. Meet up again at the Rambagh Palace for tea or drinks at the famous Polo Bar where some of the best silver trophies won by the Jaipur team all over the world are displayed. Dinner at Samode Haveli. DAY THIRTEEN - NOV 24 A free morning. People could do more sightseeing or shopping. You will have some options. 12.00pm departure for the Samode Bagh-a mughal garden now restored, where we will stop for lunch before proceeding to the famous Samode Palace where the movie Far Pavilions was shot. A gala evening for the last night with music and dance. DAY FOURTEEN - NOV 25 For this day there are two options. If the connecting international flight is the same day one could wait at the Palace and drive in time for the flight. Delhi is only 3 1/2hrs away. Or else one could drive and stay the night in Delhi. The option can be exercised once flight times are decided.
